If you are thinking of investing in real estate, your best bet is to invest in a market which shows a strong history of good return; while in the United States the market is showing some positive signs, even the best market areas are still volatile, and don’t show strong signs of recovery. Compare this to Mexico real estate, which was far less affected by either the 2006 housing bubble or the following recession, and has continued to show excellent investment potential with only minor and temporary price reductions in the market.
Considering the best housing markets in the U.S., Denver was named at the top, but experts call the recovery “modest” and predict that even in the best areas, the next few years will continue to show a lot of uncertainty, with distressed sales and foreclosures continuing and prices rising and falling less predictably than is healthy. Las Vegas and Miami, which have typically been warm-climate competition for Mexico, showed up at the bottom of the list, with prices still dropping more than 13 percent and 7 percent respectively.
Mexico MLS listings, on the other hand, still have a few price reductions, mostly in the high-end luxury market, but these have been disappearing, and most of the favorite real estate market areas have been showing excellent signs of a healthy market moving ahead. Unemployment in Mexico has dropped, placing the country high on international ranking; the tourism economy in these places has shown clear signs of recovery, already looking to pre-recession numbers.
The government and private corporations are investing heavily into building and expanding international airports, building roads, offering new activities ranging from golf to eco-parks, showing confidence in both a growing tourism industry, and a healthy real estate market for international buyers. While the U.S. market is still not in a position to be called stable, for U.S. buyers, it is an ideal time to buy in Mexico.
