For the last several years, “Saturday Night Live” has been criticized for not having enough female cast members. And now another shocking decision by producer Lorne Michaels will no doubt put the show at the center of the controversy once again.Several days ago, it was announced that SNL had hired two new female performers – Nasim Pedrad and Jenny Slate. With Kristen Wiig, Casey Wilson, Michaela Watkins, and Abby Elliott in the cast already, it looked as though finally the show would strike a more even balance between its male and female performers.

The moment I had been waiting for all year had finally arrived last night. I stocked up on treats and refreshments at the grocery store and finished all of my household chores early in the day so I would be fully prepared for Oscar night! I must say that I am not a huge fashion mogul but I absolutely adored the dresses this year. I love the way they shined and flowed and complemented every figure on the red carpet. The top three dresses had to go to Demi Moore, Cameron Diaz and J-Lo. I was slightly amused by the dress that Charlize Theron was wearing as it boasted two flower-like spirals on the chest. We all know that if anyone can get away with this look and have the attitude to pull it off, it would be Charlize Theron.

The day before thanksgiving Allen Iverson announced that he would be retiring from the NBA after 13 incredible years that included Rookie of the Year, 10x All Star selection, 4x-scoring champion, and also League MVP in 2001. Not many people believed him even Iverson did not seem convinced that he was retiring by making statements like “ I still have a lot left in the tank “, and “ I feel I could still compete at the highest level”. Those are not statements that someone would make if they were really going to walk away from the sport that made them a star.

For 34 years Florida State University head football coach Bobby Bowden has helped his team become one of the most storied college football programs of all time. During his tenure the Seminoles have won two national championships and 12 ACC (Atlantic Coastal Conference) titles. Bowden has also led the Seminoles to 14 straight ten win seasons in which the team finished ranked in the top five each season. One of his biggest accomplishments is the fact that Bowden only had one losing season as the head coach of Florida State.

One of the funniest movies I have ever seen was Wedding Crashers but one of the not so funny things I have ever seen or heard is the White House Crashers. For what was suppose to be an elegant dinner for President Barack Obama, India’s prime minister, high end social life’s, and celebrities to all gather and see the inside day to day lives of the governing body has ended in turmoil. Even though the event went well and nobody seemed out of place at the event surrounded by secret service agents everywhere, two uninvited guess were able to walk their way right in.

It’s been a couple of years since fans and team personnel of the Atlanta Falcons have looked at ex quarterback Michael Vick as their team savior. They have a new top dog at the helm in Matt Ryan who does all the right things that a team leader should do. That’s the one of the biggest differences that team management sees between Ryan and the former Falcon Vick who at the height of his glory was the highest paid player in the NFL.

My favorite show on this network is “Mitwaa Phool Kamal Ke.” As the saying goes, it’s amidst the nastiest muck that lotuses bloom. “Mitwaa Phool Kamal Ke” is an innocent love story amidst the troubling traditions. It is mainly based on caste issues where people are ready to pull swords to protect their pretentious honor.

Wesley Snipes

It looks as if Wesley Snipes is starting to earn plenty of money to make up for what he owes the IRS. He’ll be playing a major role in the movie Brooklyn’s Finest and word has it there may be a Blade 3. I thought Blade was over years ago. Hopefully Snipes holds on to his earnings from Brooklyn’s Finest because something tells me that most people will not be rushing to theaters on opening night because they just can’t wait to see the third edition of the Blade Trilogy.

I am very pleased to announce that I was able to break free to the movies Saturday night to see Shutter Island! As I’m sure you must be aware by now, this is Scorcese’s first crack at a psychological thriller. Many of us know and love Scorcese for hit films like Goodfellas and Casino so many of us were surprised to learn that he was taking on this new project. We all have such high expectations of Scorcese that of course we’re going to critique the film from beginning to end. I was concerned at first that there may be a possibility of being disappointed. Some of the best directors have had their share of movies that bombed when they tried something new so I was worried that this film would not live up to my expectations. There are many times when a trailer for a movie will draw me in completely and I’ll get my hopes up that I’m going to see an amazing movie and more often than not, something about the film will not live up to its great reputation. I was pleasantly surprised with Shutter Island.
