Well, the axe has fallen and the first casualty of the new fall season is in.“The Beautiful Life,” which was executive produced by Ashton Kutcher, has been cancelled by The CW after just two episodes. The episode pulled in just short of only a million viewers. Those are terrible numbers, even for a smaller network such as The CW.

American Idol producers have finally settled on a replacement for Paula Abdul, and the result is surprising!Ellen DeGeneres revealed to studio audiences members at her talk show yesterday that she would be replacing Paula Abdul as the fourth judge. DIRECTV is going under fire for the terms of their early cancellation fees. If you are a Dish Network customer, consider yourself lucky that you are not in the same boat as some DIRECTV consumers. The satellite TV provider requires that consumers sign a two-year commitment when they sign up for new service. There used to be a 12-month commitment with standard equipment, but that was upgraded to an 18-month commitment and soon after that raised to two-years.

Big Brother on cbs on Dish Network

It’s a little late, but here’s my “Big Brother” recap for Tuesday August 25th. And just a reminder, for Dish Network customers in the Boston area, “Big Brother” airs on CBS which is channel 4.So Jeff has nominated Kevin and Natalie, but he has assured them both that they are pawns and that the real target is Russell. Russell is walking around the house paranoid, and rightfully so, because both Jeff and Jordan are acting weird around him, despite their claims that everything is still going according to plan. Jeff is still upset over what Kevin told him (that Russell said he’s going after Jeff next.)

Battle of the two horror titans

This weekend is a weekend I’ve been waiting for for a long time: my two most anticipated movies of the year come out on the same weekend. How cool is that?First up is The Final Destination. This is the fourth movie in the Final Destination series, and this time around it’s in 3D! The premise of these movies is that one person has a premonition of a disaster in which they die, and they freak out and escape the tragedy (along with their friends and/or bystanders.) Then, because they messed with Death’s master plan, each one of them begins to die in horribly gruesome (and creative) ways. The first movie’s disaster was on an airplane, the second was a pileup on a highway, the third a roller coaster derailing, and the fourth takes places at a NASCAR race.

Big Brother on Dish Network

So even though I was away on vacation and missed Thursday’s episode of “Big Brother” (not to worry I have it DVRed), I managed to catch last night’s episode on the plane ride home from Florida. How convenient. Thanks, JetBlue!Anyway, I learned through the “Previously on Big Brother” that Lydia had been evicted. Though her meltdowns probably would have made for some interesting drama for at least another week, I tend to get annoyed when someone who doesn’t even really bother to play the game gets to stay in the house longer than those who are. Despite being nominated several times, Lydia was nothing but a floater.

Gabrielle Union (Bring It On, Bad Boys II) has joined the cast of ABC’s new fall drama, “FlashForward.” Union is slated to play the recurring role of Zoey, who is a criminal defense attorney and will have a romantic arc on the show. The show was initally rejected by HBO but later picked up by ABC, and the network is hoping they have another hit on their hands in the vein of “Lost” ,which would be a good thing considering “Lost” is entering its final season and the network needs another ratings giant.

I LoveYou Man is now available on Dish Network, and if you are a fan of such movies as The 40-Year Old Virgin, Knocked Up, Superbad, or Pineapple Express, then you will not be disappointed with this movie.I caught this movie on Friday night and it’s definitely one of the better comedies I’ve seen in the last couple of years. It doesn’t top The Hangover or Stepbrothers, but I still had a good time with this movie, and my laughs were pretty consistent throughout. The movie centers on Paul Rudd’s character Peter Klaven, a real estate agent who has managed to go through his life without forging many strong friendships with other men.

My review of The Final Destination

I’ve always viewed the Final Destination movies as the horror movie genre’s equivalent of fast food. They’re quick and gruesome entries into the genre with over-the-top creative kills and a fast pace. The first movie, which was released in 2000, was the first to introduce the idea of a group of people escaping death, only to have the Grim Reaper circle back around and claim them anyway. It had a modest box office take, and 3 years later came the sequel, which still remains my favorite of the series.
